I’m under contract with Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to write a book about his adventures studying Blakiston’s fish owls, titled “Owls of the Eastern Ice.” The book has also been picked up by Penguin for publication and release in the United Kingdom.
This is a non-fiction, natural history travel adventure, an account of a five- year period (2006-2010) in remote corners of the Russian province Primorye researching the Blakiston’s fish owl: a globally-endangered species, the largest owl in the world, a salmon-eater, and one of the most enigmatic and least-studied birds of northeast Asia. The goal was to discover as much as possible about the secret lives of these endangered owls in order to understand what was needed to protect them from extinction.
This book is scheduled for release on 02 June 2020, and will be available at FSG, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple’s iBookstore, and Indiebound.
